DUPLEX, an Intriguing Sire.

Know  what the Holstein International "Intriguing Sires" column say about Mesland DUPLEX, last February 2005.

MESLAND DUPLEX

Durham x Emory x Holiday (Spain, Aberekin, 2365 ICO)

He is the very first Durham son in Europe and taking off with a dream start: Duplex. It is not a totally unexpected start, as Duplex has a dream pedigree. Not only is his sire Durham the new sire of sons sensation in the Holstein world, his maternal line draws global demand as well. His dam is the beautiful cow Henkeseen Hills Emerald EX-90, a full sister to the proven and still popular sire Henkeseen Hillcrest of Select Sires. Emperor, in Canada, is another full brother. Insiders will already know we are talking about the great family of Henkeseen Hillary EX-94, Duplex's granddam. Duplex therefore combines the famous Hillary and Dellia families but, just like Mr Sam in the U.S., also combines the exclusive sires of sons Durham and Emory. Now, with his debut, Duplex has 30 daughters for production and 23 for type, for 68% and 69% reliability respectively. He is an average production bull but an absolute top bull for type. Moreover, Duplex starts out with favorable ratings for secondary traits. Early users should protect his fat percent. His rating for rump shape is - 0.35 meaning he sires high pins. For the time being low reliability seems to be Duplex' only major weakness. The next Spanish index release is in July 2005, at which time he should double his number of daughters. By the way, Duplex has been in active service for over a year now: When the Spanish dairymen saw his first milking daughters, they have started using him again.
